Northern Colorado IMRG Taos Red River Road Trip

Calling all Taos road trippers!  The adventure is almost here!  This is a reminder that we’ll be hitting the road soon, so get your bikes prepped and ready to roll.

Gear up for a thrilling escape to the heart of northern New Mexico!  This 2-night, 3-day adventure (June 8th-10th) with the Northern Colorado IMRG will take you on an unforgettable journey through breathtaking landscapes and charming mountain towns.

The Ride:

Challenge Rating: This road trip is rated at a difficulty level of 4-5 (1-easiest, 5-hardest).

Travel:  Prepare for exhilarating climbs, sweeping switchbacks, and the undeniable thrill of conquering mountain passes requiring good technical riding skills.  There will be long riding distances, which will require good stamina (don’t worry though, there will be plenty of rest stops).  Interstate riding will be kept minimal, but there will be higher speeds on highways.

Mileage: Saddle up for approximately 333 miles each way (to/from Taos), with minimal interstate riding and plenty of scenic highways.

Our Basecamp:

Taos Motor Lodge (877-644-0969):  We’ll be staying at this centrally located lodge, offering a quintessential Taos vibe and budget-friendly comfort.  While it may not have a pool or spa, its charm and affordability make it the perfect place to unwind after a day of adventure.

Looking for luxury? There are other nearby options that you can search and find!

The Itinerary:

Day 1 (Saturday June 8th):

7:30 AM: Meet your fellow riders at the Maverik gas station in Dacono (127 Laura Way, Dacono, CO; on Hwy 52, east side of I25).

8:00 AM: Kickstands up and hit the road!

The Journey: Prepare to be mesmerized as we travel primarily on scenic Hwy 285, soaking in the changing landscapes and feeling the wind in your face.

Destination: Arrive in Taos, ready to explore the town’s vibrant culture and soak in the mountain air.

Day 2 (Sunday June 9th):

Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway:  Strap you helmets on for a magical day exploring this iconic loop.  Prepare to be captivated by stunning vistas, quaint villages like Red River, and the otherworldly beauty of Wheeler Peak Wilderness.

Day 3 (Monday June 10th):

With unforgettable memories and a renewed sense of adventure, we’ll head back to Colorado, making the most of the scenic return route.

Hit the Road Ready:

Gear Up:  Double-check your motorcycle’s condition.  Wear a helmet, gloves, boots, and protective clothing.  You might consider earplugs for wind noise with the long riding distance.

Pack Light, Layer Smart:  Bring essentials for changing weather conditions.  Pack layers you can easily add or remove for comfort with changing temperatures.  Bring a rainsuit for unexpected downpours.  Motorcycle storage is limited, focus on essentials and pack efficiently.

Stay Healthy & Safe:  Remember to bring any medications you need with you.  Carry water and electrolytes to stay hydrated.  If you have any special dietary needs, be sure to bring supplements with you.  Carry energy snacks for in-between meals.

Safe Riding & Waivers:  Please review and familiarize yourself with “Going on NoCo IMRG Group Rides.”  Download and complete the ride waiver and be sure to fill in an Emergency Contact.

This is more than just a ride; it’s an opportunity to bond with fellow motorcycle enthusiasts, conquer challenging roads, and create lasting memories.
