Day 8 – This day would be the start of our trek home. Our plan was to ride ~400 miles to WaKeeney, KS. We started with breakfast at the Carthage Family Restaurant. Over breakfast we studied the weather radars and thought otherwise about attempting to ride to WaKeeney. Severe thunderstorms were pretty much in the forecast for the day. So instead, we decided to take a more southern route across Oklahoma to try and avoid rain. We traveled about 200 miles to Ponca City, OK. We stopped for a late lunch, and about that time a heavy downpour started. When the rain calmed momentarily, we decided stay at a nearby hotel for the night instead of traveling on. It ended up raining the rest of the evening and overnight.
