Northern Colorado IMRG Fort Laramie Ride

Let’s hit the road for a NoCo IMRG group motorcycle ride from Fort Collins to Fort Laramie.  This will be a fantastic day trip through some Colorado and Wyoming landscapes, and a chance to soak up some Wyoming history.

Fort Laramie was first established as a private fur trading post in 1834. Officially, this first Fort Laramie was named “Fort William” in honor of its founder William Sublette. Fort William was replaced in 1841 by the second Fort Laramie, which was named “Fort John” and also served as a private trading post. Fort John was purchased by the military in 1849 and officially was renamed “Fort Laramie.” Fort Laramie continued in operation until 1890 when it was abandoned.  Fort Laramie evolved into the largest and best known military post on the Northern Plains, and witnessed the entire sweeping saga of America’s western expansion and Indian resistance to encroachment on their territories.

  • Meet Time: Saturday July 13th 8:15 a.m. with KSU 8:30 a.m.
  • Meeting Point: Indian Motorcycle of Fort Collins
  • Ride Route: Hwy 85 N to Cheyenne, and to Torrington; Hwy 26 W to Fort Laramie.  We will take the same route back home and end the ride in Ault.
  • Ride Duration: ~308 miles; ~5.5 hrs saddle time.
  • Ride Level: This ride is rated 3-4 (1=easy, 5=hard) for riding on highways for extended periods.
  • Stops: Torrington for lunch, Fort Laramie National Historic Site.  We will also be making a rest stop to and from Fort Laramie, and will also make fuel stops.
Things to Bring:
  • Sunscreen
  • Lots of water / electrolytes
  • Snacks
  • Hat (keep your head covered while walking outdoors at the historic site)
  • Cooling neck wrap (it’s supposed to be a pretty hot day on Saturday)

This will be an all-day event and we will most likely not arrive back home until ~6:00 p.m.  We’ll ride at a moderate pace, and make sure everyone feels safe and comfortable.
