Officially\, this first Fort Laramie was named “Fort William” in honor of its founder William Sublette. Fort William was replaced in 1841 by the second Fort Laramie\, which was named “Fort John” and also served as a private trading post. Fort John was purchased by the military in 1849 and officially was renamed “Fort Laramie.” Fort Laramie continued in operation until 1890 when it was abandoned.  Fort Laramie evolved into the largest and best known military post on the Northern Plains\, and witnessed the entire sweeping saga of America’s western expansion and Indian resistance to encroachment on their territories. \n\n\nMeet Time: Saturday July 13th 8:15 a.m. with KSU 8:30 a.m.\nMeeting Point: Indian Motorcycle of Fort Collins\nRide Route: Hwy 85 N to Cheyenne\, and to Torrington; Hwy 26 W to Fort Laramie.  We will take the same route back home and end the ride in Ault.\nRide Duration: ~308 miles; ~5.5 hrs saddle time.\nRide Level: This ride is rated 3-4 (1=easy\, 5=hard) for riding on highways for extended periods.\nStops: Torrington for lunch\, Fort Laramie National Historic Site.  We will also be making a rest stop to and from Fort Laramie\, and will also make fuel stops.\n\n\nThings to Bring:\n\nSunscreen\nLots of water / electrolytes\nSnacks\nHat (keep your head covered while walking outdoors at the historic site)\nCooling neck wrap (it’s supposed to be a pretty hot day on Saturday)\n\n \nThis will be an all-day event and we will most likely not arrive back home until ~6:00 p.m.  We’ll ride at a moderate pace\, and make sure everyone feels safe and comfortable.\n\n \n  \nGoing on NoCo IMRG Group Motorcycle Rides \n \nAbout Northern Colorado IMRG

We do not want to expose anyone to these less than fair riding conditions. In the meantime\, please stay safe and warm and hope to see you at our Chapter meeting on Saturday October 21st. \n  \n  \n  \nThe NoCo IMRG Fort Laramie Ride is this Saturday\, October 14th. We will meet at Ted’s Place (gas station at corner of Highway 287 & 14). Meet time is 9:30 am with KSU @10:00 am. This will be an all-day ride (7 to 8 hour day). Lunch stop will be somewhere around Wheatland\, WY. We will tour Fort Laramie and finish the day’s ride at the Indian Motorcycle of Fort Collins. \nThis ride will be about 330 miles\, and is rated at a Level 4-5 (depending on the Wyoming wind). \nFort Laramie was first established as a private fur trading post in 1834. \n  \n  \n  \nGoing on NoCo IMRG Group Motorcycle Rides \n \nAbout Northern Colorado IMRG \n \n\n
